Sentier Research Survey Tabulator Beta Test

Sentier Research has joined forces with Marc Cigrang, an expert Java application developer in Luxembourg, to create an interactive system that permits users to define tables and generatge statistics from household survey microdata files. Please test the beta version of this system by clicking on the start button below. Several steps follow. First you will be asked to start the java webstart launcher (remotestatistics.jnlp). Second you will be asked to run the application. You will receive a notification that the digital signature cannot be verified. This is safe to run so go ahead.

You must now logon to the interface. Choose "guest" for the userid and "guest" for the password. Then click "logon" (registration is not open at this time). If all is working properly the tabulator will start. The beta version contains live data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS). We have included three data sets for testing. The first contains selected characteristics of households for the state of Wisconsin for 2010. The second contains selected characteristics for the United States for 2010 (the Census 1- year file). The third contains similar selected characteristics of the United States for 2007-2010 (the Census 3-year file). The data set for Wisconsin contains approximately 25,000 observations. The sample sizes for the second and third data sets are 1,200,000 and 3,500,000 households respectively. Please follow these initial steps once the application has started:

  1. Select SENTIER for the database (currently the only choice)
  2. Select ACS for the Level (currently the only choice)
  3. Select one or both datasets (note checkboxes)
  4. Follow instructions on the "to do" list displayed in the application
